May Movie Madness: The Forest in Six Words

The forest is beautiful and dangerous.

The Forest (English, Hindi, dir. Ashvin Kumar, 2009)

Starring: Ankur Vikal, Javed Jaffrey, Nandana Sen, Salim Ali Zaidi,Tarun Shukla

Worth revisiting? Hmm. Yes, but not for the reasons you might suppose. In all honesty, I didn't find The Forest remotely thrilling or scary at all. I did find the dialogues dreadful and, frankly, laughable, and I think I might share a few of the prime ones at some point. That said, the film is visually incredibly beautiful, and the much underrated Javed Jaffrey is, once again, terrific. We are fans of Javed Jaffrey here at Casa Totally Filmi -- he is a good actor, a good dancer, and, having had the privilege of meeting him once, consider him an incredibly good sport. He also has an amazing voice. Amazing. So further discussion of The Forest and its environmental message (which, fortunately, doesn't hit one over the head), as well as of Javed Jaffrey, might well be in order.
