Blog commenter XceeD kindly let me know that Srinath Rajendran's film Second Show (the debut film of Mammootty's son Dulquer Salman) is considered the first Malayalam Box Office hit of 2012 -- but even better, provided a link to the trailer with subtitles!
I have to say, if I was intrigued by this before, I am even more so now that I have a better idea what's going on in the trailer -- in fact, the trailer had me hooked at "Is this a campus movie?" and gave me several moments where I laughed out loud. Counting the months 'til the DVD comes out....
"This isn't Tamil cinema for the heroine to fall for a goonda" LOVE IT, that one line has made this a must-see for me! Thanks so much for the link. I can see me having to squeeze in several Mallu films this year now.

Yes, that line is one of the ones that made me laugh out loud. I was already curious to see how Dulquer Salman would fare in his first film, and with music by Mallu alt rock band Avial, I was sure there would be something there I would like :-)
At some point, once I get through all of the 2011 films I have lined up here, I'll put together my ten faves of last year. And I'll do the same for this year, only, it takes so long for the films to comeout on DVD.
