Three recent favorite films are showing at three different festivals this weekend. I can't go, but if you're in the neighbourhood of any of these, I hope you'll be going!
1. The Eclipse of Taregna
A lovely short film written and directed by Rakesh Chaudary -- I had the good fortune to see it at FILMI, Toronto's South Asian Film Festival -- will be making what looks like its last festival appearance this weekend in New York City at the Imagine Science Films festival. Go! Watch!
2. Urumi
I would dearly love the chance to see Urumi on a cinema screen with subtitles -- I've seen it in a cinema without them, and on DVD with them. I think Urumi will end up one of my Mollywood favorites this year, and it's showing this Sunday, October 16th at the Mumbai Film Festival (also a festival I would love the chance to attend one day!)
3. Adaminte Makan Abu
Adaminte Makan Abu (aka Abu, Son of Adam) is this film that took home the National Award for Best Film. It's a much deserved accolade for this lovely film; also much deserved is the National Award for Best Actor that went to its star, Salim Kumar. It's the Indian film I most wished had come to the Toronto International Film Festival, and if I had the chance, I'd be going to see it at the BFI London Film Festival. If you don't have tickets already, though, you're out of luck, because, happily (for the film) it is sold out.
