Normally I ignore the PR type requests that arrive in my inbox, for a variety of reasons, but this is something I'd been thinking about posting here on the blog anyway, so when I got the request to spread the word by blogging about it, I figured it was a sign of some sort. That it comes with a wee bit of pedigree, especially in the form of House Favorite Anurag Kashyap, didn't hurt, either.
(Actually? I'm sort of curious why Paanch keeps coming up for me lately. For those who might not know, Paanch was Anurag Kashyap's directorial debut film. It was never released, because the certification board (read: censors) refused to pass it for a variety of reasons. The film has one of my favorite sets of opening credits, and a mesmerising performance by another Totally Filmi favorite, Kay Kay Menon. But I'm wandering away from the point of the post here.)
But in this case, "paanch" refers to a short film contest being organized by Tumbhi, a web portal launched by a number of industry types, including Kashyap. Tumbhi's aim, apparently, is to "discover, nurture, and leverage talent". I'm guessing one of the ways to do that is by organzing the short film contest, Paanch:
Don't click on the image, I have no idea how to add a link. See below for how to find more info.
Here's the deal: Tumbhi and Anurag Kashyap are going to produce five short films. The cast and crew for the films will be chosen from amongst the folks registered on Tumbhi. Kashyap will choose the scripts for the films from what is submitted for the competition, and, apparently, he will act as mentor on the films as well.
I mean. Seriously. If I had a script in mind, I would *totally* be submitting it, because the chance to be mentored by Anurag Kashyap? Seriously.
However, I'm in no position to enter. But maybe you are? Maybe you have an idea for a short film bubbling away out there, and you'd like to submit it for the competition? You have until May 30th, 2011 to do so.
If you *are* curious, then you can check out more about the competition on the Tumbhi site.
