....which may give you an idea about how I feel about my country's current Prime Minister, Stephen Harper. Mr. Harper (I suppose I'm supposed to call him the Right Honorable, but it kind of sticks in my throat) is currently on his first trip to India, as part of a trip to foster trade links in South Asia.
(As an aside, I think a trip to India is wasted on him, but there we are. I am, quite possibly, jealous that I can't afford to go myself, especially when I'd likely appreciate it so much more than he likely will.)
But as part of his bid to make nice and maybe get some votes from Canadian fans, he met up with this guy:
See, I'm thinking, looking at this picture, that Harper has No Clue. Oh, someone probably briefed him (maybe, it's not always a certain thing), something like, "Akshay Kumar, Big Bollywood Star", but I'm willing to bet he's never seen Akshay in a film.
The cool news, though, is that apparently Akshay has been chosen to be part of the Olympic Torch Relay run in Toronto in December. So I may have to make a trip in. You know, to let out my inner fan girl. I know, I know, he's disappointed me this last year with a bunch of less than stellar films, but I still have hope that one day I'll enjoy an Akshay Kumar film again.
And just to connect the dots a little, a huge thank you to Todd Tyrtle who, during a discussion about this whole thing, alerted me to this little bit of brilliance from the folks over at the Rick Mercer Report:
(For those not familiar with Canadian politics, Stephen Harper is our Prime Minister, and Jason Kenney, also referenced in the clip, is our Minister of Citizenship, Immigration, and Multiculturalism. That is as polite as I can be about them.)
